Finally, our angel is here! Whoo hoo!
Brynnley is almost one week old! It's been a crazy beautiful week! She is perfect and everything we prayed she would be. We went in to the hospital on Sunday evening (Sept. 18) to induce labor. Started the first dosage as soon as we got there and by 1:00AM I was having CRAZY contractions. I was having contractions about every 3-4 minutes. I would have a contraction grab the bedside as tight as I could and breath my way through it then go to sleep for 2 minutes. This cycle continued until about 4:00AM or so.Finally I asked the nurse for something for the pain. She came through and I was completely unable to even stand straight on my own- funny sight to see Brent try to help me to the bathroom, hold the IV stand AND make sure my cords didn't get yanked out. About 6:00AM my water broke and about 6:30 the nurses started swarming my room pushing on my belly, having me turn over, stimulating the baby. Kinda scary, obviously something was wrong! Apparently the intense contractions I was having were putting Brynnley in distress and her heart rate was dropping WAY to low during each contraction. We finally decided I just couldn't lay on my right side and had to stay on my left side or back for the remainder. They also gave me a shot to slow and relax the contractions (ugh, we worked this hard and now we're going backwards!) About 7:00AM the wonderful man came to give me my epidural! I believe I owe him some sort of gift for making me feel so much better! Doctor came about 7:30 to check on me and I was about 5 cm dilated. I was pretty knocked out the rest of the day and trying to catch up on all the sleep I lost the night before. Brent took care of making sure I got my epidural medicine every 20 minutes ON THE DOT! About 8:00AM we started on the Pitocin which encourages the contractions (here we go again). At 1:00 my doctor came back and I was dilated to 9cm. He said, "you're having a contraction right now. Give me a push." As soon as I pushed he said , "Stop! Let me get my gloves on!" We started pushing right then. About 15 minutes later we heard that beautiful cry! Brynnley was born at 1:29PM weighing 6 lb. 12 oz. and measured 18 inches long. It seemed like eternity as they washed her off and made her official. It was obvious they were concerned when they said, "Okay mom, give her a QUICK kiss and we need to take her!" Brent never even got to hold her at all. They took her off to the nursery and I was unplugged from some of the machines and was beginning down the road to feel my bottom half again.
About 30 minutes after delivery, the pediatric doctor came in to tell us what was up with Brynnley and that they had moved her to NICU.
To make a long story short, they were scared she may have an infection and was showing some signs of distress as far as her breathing went.
After 2 days of running tests and waiting for results Brynnley and I were both discharged from the hospital.
Our first few nights at home have been EXHAUSTING! The first night was just Brynnley and us trying to figured each other's schedule out and how everything was going to work. The other nights have been better, but she feeds about every 3 hours, so I'm up for AT LEAST 1 hour feeding and then I try to get a couple of hours in between. It's been beautiful. She is perfect and beautiful. Even her cry is fun to hear at this point, it's just so precious! I was doing her 5AM feeding on Saturday (Sept. 14) when I saw her smile for the first time. I couldn't help but cry. She was absolutely AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! I love to sit and watch her new facial expressions. She has been a wonderful baby so far. She sleeps most of the time unless its time to eat (which is how we know she's a Sims).
I feel like she has already grown so much in these first couple of days. I can't wait to experience all the other blessings and love we will share!
